If you are planning on getting rid of your fridge or freezer, new rules are being implemented at County Durham recycling centres.
Residents are being warned that a new permit will now be required for disposing of cooling appliances.
Regardless of what vehicle you drive, a permit is needed, and cooling appliances will now be accepted at every HWRC.
Durham County Council said: "Important update for HWRC visitors.
"If you're bringing a cooling appliance such as a fridge or freezer to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), you'll now require a Hazardous Waste Permit regardless of what vehicle you are in; and they will be accepted at every HWRC.
"This change helps ensure hazardous materials are managed safely and responsibly."

However, the announcement prompted concern among residents, with many questioning whether the additional paperwork could deter people from disposing of appliances legally.
Taking to the council’s social media post, one local said: “You will now get more fly-tipping; another great idea from DCC.”
Another resident expressed their concern, typing: “More red tape plus more hassle = more fly-tipping.”
Others raised concerns that abandoned appliances could become a more common sight, writing: “Fridge freezers on every street corner incoming.”
The council say its wider permit scheme remains in place for residents using vans, pick-ups and trailers to dispose of household waste.
Under the scheme, each household can apply for up to 12 waste permits per year, with additional permits considered in exceptional circumstances.
Permits can be displayed digitally on a mobile phone and scanned at HWRC sites.

Hazardous waste permits are valid for one day, while standard waste permits remain valid for seven days.
Residents can use permits at any household waste recycling centre, even if they originally selected a different site when applying.
The council said the permit system helps staff distinguish household waste from commercial waste and assists in preventing abuse of recycling facilities.
