Music filled Darlington Market Square this weekend as the Durham Big Band Alumni and Friends brought an afternoon of swing, jazz and well-known tunes to the town centre.

The free event saw the 17-piece ensemble and a number of guest performers take to the stage between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday (August 22), entertaining crowds gathered in the sunshine.

Pictures show musicians playing to excited audiences, with the familiar sound of big-band brass and jazz rhythms creating a colourful atmosphere in the heart of Darlington.

The afternoon began with a set from Alumni All Stars, before Durham Big Band performed twice during the event.

Swing Manouche rounded off the programme with its final performance of the day.

The Durham Alumni Big Band is made up of former musicians from Durham University and Durham Music Service. Founded in 2007, the group has performed at festivals and jazz venues across the North East.
