A newly-opened burger bar is earning five star reviews for food that diners describe as ‘banging.’
Tom Allen and wife Tal have opened TT Burgers in Woodthorpe, where Sloppy’s Bar and Kitchen used to be.
Sloppy’s moved to Castlegate to be in the centre of town, where Clucking Oinks used to be. Molly McGrath and Leon Sledmore opened their new restaurant on Friday.
TT Burgers previously operated from The Fox in Holgate, but from last Wednesday, if gained a permanent home in the Acomb Wood Shopping Centre next to the Buongirnio Bistro Sardinian restaurant.

Tom, 28, was born in the Midlands but moved to York aged 8 and and Tal was born and raised in Clifton.
He told the Press: “I have always had an interest in food, despite never being a professional chef and we would regularly cook and experiment with food at home.”

Tom previously worked as kitchen delivery driver, which took him all over the country spending much time away from family, but following the birth of their second child, the couple made the decision he needed to be at home more.
Tom said: “I quit my job and we invested in a food truck which we set up at The Fox in Holgate. We had great success and really enjoyed our time meeting some great people and really connecting with our customers.
“After finishing at The Fox we decided we wanted a permanent location where we could build something long term, we looked at a few places around York before deciding to open in Woodthorpe.

TT Burgers sells burgers, both chicken and beef with various twists that are exclusive to them, as well as birria tacos, with more flavours to follow in the near future. There is also a wide variety of sides such as chicken tenders, loaded fries and a giant mozzarella stick.

Since the couple’s new restaurant was in a former burger bar, it just needed a lick of pain and a few other details, making for an easy conversion.
Their Woodthorpe restaurant features a bar with beers and wine available and they have their own soft drinks unit selling flavours they say are not found in York.
In the opening days of trtading the Extra-Large Mozzarella stick has been a best seller, along with the Mac Attack Burger, which features two beef patties and macaroni cheese.

Tom added: “Our food stands out thanks to big flavour locally sourced products such as meat from M&K Butchers on Bishopthorpe Road and freshly made potato buns from Baltzersen bakery in Harrogate. We are hoping to show that local produce can be made in a exciting and affordable way!”
And the recipe seems to be working with all eight Google Reviews to date being five star.
One said: “Hot Cheeto chicken burger was banging.”
Another added: “Food and staff was amazing. Would definitely recommend and will be returning for sure.”
