A Volkswagen Crafter van was stopped by roads policing officers on Shipley Airedale Road in Bradford after its manner of driving attracted attention.
West Yorkshire Police's Operation Steerside team said the vehicle appeared to be making slower progress than expected, leading officers to stop the van and speak with the driver.
Driver Said He Was Tired
When officers spoke to the driver, they were told the vehicle was being driven slowly because it had been a long day and the driver was feeling tired.
In a social media post, police acknowledged that many motorists can relate to feeling fatigued after a long day.
However, further checks revealed a more serious issue.
Driver Was Disqualified
West Yorkshire Police said checks on their systems showed the motorist was actually disqualified from driving.
Officers said the discovery came as a surprise to the driver.
West Yorkshire Police said the van was subsequently seized and the driver was reported to court.
Police Message on Road Safety
Sharing details of the incident, officers said: "Excess speed draws our attention, but so does excess slowness."
The force highlighted the stop as part of its ongoing road safety work under Operation Steerside and Vision Zero West Yorkshire, which aims to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the region's roads.
Police have not released further details about the driver or the circumstances surrounding the disqualification.
