Three people have been arrested after a contaminated batch of diazepam is believed to have left two men seriously ill.
Both men, aged 21 and 30, were taken to hospital after taking the drug, also known as "wobbly eggs," at an address in Stockton.
Two men aged 44 and 30, and a 38-year-old woman, have been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance.
Diazepam is a type of medicine called a benzodiazepine and is usually used to treat symptoms such as anxiety, seizures and muscle spasms.
Detective Sergeant Jonathan Christie of Stockton CID said: "While we would not advocate the use of illegal drugs, we would warn drug users that this particular batch could be dangerous.
"If you are a drug user, or know someone who is struggling with addiction, please make sure you’re aware of the heightened risk this batch poses.
"Anyone who experiences unexpected or severe side effects from any drug use should seek immediate medical attention."
Officers are working with public health teams and partner agencies to investigate the incidents and identify the source of the contaminated drugs.
Their investigation remains ongoing.
