A County Durham medical group has donated £200 to a walking club after a drop in income threatened to affect its activities, highlighting the growing role community organisations play in supporting residents' health and wellbeing.
East Durham Medical Group (EDMG) made the donation to Peterlee Walking Club to help sustain its work.
The club offers regular walking opportunities that promote physical activity, social connection, and improved wellbeing.

Joseph Chandy, managing partner at EDMG, said: "At East Durham Medical Group we recognise that good health is about much more than medical care alone.
"Community organisations such as Peterlee Walking Club help people remain active, improve their wellbeing and maintain valuable social connections.
"Walking is one of the simplest and most accessible forms of exercise, and groups like this provide encouragement, companionship and a sense of belonging.
"We were pleased to make this donation and support the club during a period when revenues have been challenging."

The club has been a fixture in the community.
It helps members enjoy the outdoors while benefiting from regular exercise and social interaction.
David Taylor-Gooby, vice-chair of Peterlee Walking Club, said: "We are extremely grateful to East Durham Medical Group for this generous donation.
"Like many community groups, we have seen our income come under pressure, and support such as this helps us continue providing opportunities for local people to come together, keep active and enjoy the outdoors."
The club’s next walk will take place on Saturday, September 27, with a trip to Robin Hood’s Bay on the Yorkshire coast.

The coach will depart from the Moorcock at 8.30am.
The cost of the outing is £10 for members and £15 for non-members.
New participants are welcome to join.
