Manchester Airport: Runway closed as man who encroached airfield arrested with flights diverted and delayed
Flights were diverted away from Manchester Airport on Friday evening as a man was arrested for encroaching the airfield.
A person encroached onto the airfield shortly before midnight on Friday night (August 21), The Yorkshire Post was told by a spokesperson for the airport.
They were quickly apprehended by staff and arrested by Greater Manchester Police.
The airfield was closed for around 15 minutes while the incident was handled and the breach was repaired.

The incident resulted in 7 diverted flights and 17 delayed flights according to the spokesperson.
Normal operations resumed very quickly and there is no impact on today’s schedule according to the airport.
The man is believed to be in custody at this time.
