A top-quality indie band in a scenic, iconic venue: what more could you ask for on a Friday night.
Liverpool's The Wombats have been creating hits for two decades and bringing them to life on the road.
The three-piece chose their first-ever Halifax show as the perfect way to bring the curtain down on sixth album Oh! The Ocean.
The Piece Hall crowd loved jumping to a selection of banging tunes, leaving a joyous atmosphere to enjoy.
Circa Waves a good opener
In support was self proclaimed Wombats fans Circa Waves.
The fellow Liverpudlians produced a good compliment to the headliners.
Tunes like Movies,* Fire That Burnsand, of course, T-shirt Weather* were frankly brilliant.

Lead singer Kieran Shudall was very complimentary of Halifax - jokingly saying he prefers it over San Francisco (the title of one of the band's songs).
Shudall added: “I've never been to Halifax before but it is sick as f***.”
Kicking start to The Wombats
A nice movement into the main act was the band saying tune La Bateau was named after a club in Liverpool where they used to dance to The Wombats.
Speaking of the trio - made up of vocalist Matthew Murphy, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen and drummer Dan Haggis - they didn't half open up their show with a bang.

Moving to New York andTechno Fan went down a treat with everyone in the historic hall.
Kill the Director was the next bopping banger before the supremely talented Mr Wombat made an appearance duringReady for the High.
As expected in a 19-song set, there were peaks and troughs - a lot more of the former, may I add.
Murph is one funny guy
What really came across was frontman Murph's fun personality.
He would often offer antidotes on the mic before beginning another track.
The 42-year-old told the sold-out crowd: “This is our first time here and what a beautiful venue.”

Wonderful ending
I'm a sucker for an acoustic solo to bring down the mood before firing it right back up again.
This was in the form of the perfect Lethal Combination followed byBlood On the Hospital Floor andLemon to a Knife Fight.
The final four songs were fantastic - Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) andTurn before they ended with a storming two-song encore ofGreek Tragedy and the iconicLet’s Dance To Joy Division.
