A second body has been found at the site of a devastating building fire in Batley as police and fire investigators continue to examine the rubble.
Fire service personnel and police have been carrying out detailed enquiries following the blaze at a building on the corner of Warwick Road and Mount Street in the early hours of Saturday, August 15.
The latest discovery comes after a body was found in the debris on Wednesday, August 19.
Human remains recovered from site
Investigators confirmed a second body was discovered by fire service personnel on Friday, August 21.
The remains have now been recovered from the scene.
Both bodies will be subject to post-mortem examinations as officers work to establish the identities of those who died.
Police: Investigation remains ongoing
Detective Inspector Tom Hilyer, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "Our investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing and I can confirm additional human remains have been found at the location today.
"Work remains ongoing to identify the person sadly found deceased at the scene on Wednesday, and we will of course be conducting all possible enquiries to also identify the second person we have found.
"This has been and remains a complex investigation and I want to reassure residents that all necessary resources are being utilised to determine the full circumstances of what occurred."
Appeal for information
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed anything unusual in the area, or who may have information about the incident, to come forward.
Officers are also asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area around Warwick Road and Mount Street to contact them.
