What is the Public Notice Portal?
The Public Notice Portal carries statutory public notices published in local newspapers and is the fastest and most effective way of finding out what is happening in YOUR neighbourhood.
Search the Public Notice Portal Walkers in County Durham are being advised of a long-term footpath closure while repair work is carried out to a bridge crossing, according to a public notice.
Paradise Farm Footbridge, at the junction of Footpath Number 1 in Coxhoe Parish and Footpath Number 8 in Cassop-Cum-Quarrington Parish, is now temporarily closed to all pedestrian traffic.
The Order has been continued in force from 26 August, as approved by the Secretary of State for Transport.
The closure is part of a continuing order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, initially put into operation in February 2019, and recently extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport.
The repair work is expected to be completed by May 31, 2027, but could finish earlier.
Until then, pedestrians will need to find an alternative route for the five-metre section of the bridge.
The council has suggested a detour starting from the north side of the closure via Footpath Number 8 Cassop-Cum-Quarrington Parish, heading northwards to the footbridge over the A1(M).

From there, walkers are advised to continue southwards from Footpath Number 8, onto Footpath Number 7 leading to road A688, and continue southwards to Tursdale roundabout.
The route then goes eastwards along the A177 Thinford Road to Footpath Number 1 Coxhoe Parish, which leads north-easterly under the A1(M) to the southern side of the closure.
This closure is being enforced to safeguard the public and allow for necessary repairs to be made to the footbridge.
