York confectionery shop marks 40 years of fudge-making in the city

A well-known fudge shop is celebrating four decades of sweet success and delighting visitors.

Fudge Kitchen York is celebrating 40 years of handcrafting fudge on one of York’s most historic streets, having first opened its doors in 1986.

The shop will mark the anniversary with a birthday weekend from August 28 to 31, with giveaways and free fudge samples.

Ian McCluskey, director of Fudge Kitchen, said: "Celebrating 40 years in York is an incredibly proud moment for everyone at Fudge Kitchen.

"While we're passionate about creating exceptional handmade confectionery, it's our wonderful team who truly make the experience memorable.

"Their enthusiasm, personality and dedication have helped make the York shop a destination in its own right, welcoming customers back year after year."

Visitors have long gathered to watch fudge being crafted by hand, with staff acting as both confectioners and entertainers.

Andrew Lowson, chief executive of York BID, said the business has become an "iconic" part of the city centre, adding: "This milestone is a testament to the business’s craftsmanship, character and enduring contribution to the vibrant visitor experience that makes York such a special place to live, visit and enjoy."

The shop has become a staple for both locals and tourists, known for its live demonstrations, marble slab, and warm hospitality.
