Yorkshire artist celebrates magazine's 80th anniversary with new painting

A Yorkshire artist has created a new painting in celebration of Yorkshire Life magazine's 80th anniversary.

Linda Mellin’s artwork, titled Yorkshire Life, features landmarks from across the county, including York Minster, The Shambles, Fountains Abbey and Hutton le Hole.

It appears as a free A4 print in the magazine’s September edition.

Ms Mellin, who opened a studio and gallery in Skipton earlier this year, said: "Heritage, sheep, the wool industry, moorland, the green fields of Wharfedale, the arable land of the east, horse-racing, the coast, steelworks and industry.

"This is my Yorkshire."

Her painting also appears as one of 480 limited edition framed Giclee prints.

Ms Mellin won Yorkshire Life’s Artist of the Year competition in 2017, which helped launch her commercial career.

Kathryn Armstrong, editor of Yorkshire Life, said: "Eighty years is a remarkable and proud anniversary for us, and we’re thrilled with Linda’s unique painting – it really celebrates the heritage of Yorkshire, which of course is what we have been doing for 80 years."

Yorkshire Life first went to print in 1946, just after the end of the Second World War.

The magazine’s September edition is currently on sale in newsagents and supermarkets across Yorkshire.
