Vintage vehicles to race along Bridlington beach at free festival

Vintage cars and motorcycles will take centre stage in a high-octane celebration of coastal heritage.

Race the Waves returns to Bridlington from September 10 to 13, featuring a 200-yard sprint along the sands of South Beach.

The event, organised by Backfire in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Visit East Yorkshire team, has been held in Bridlington since 2018 and draws inspiration from the beach’s historic role in early UK land speed record attempts.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "Race the Waves is a fantastic event, providing entertainment and spectacle for residents and visitors, and highlighting Bridlington’s stunning coastline.

"We encourage everyone to attend this superb free festival, suitable for all the family."

Attractions include a static auto show on South Marine Drive, organised by the Bridlington Lions, featuring vintage vehicles, stalls, and refreshments along Princess Mary Promenade.

Entertainment will include the Ken Fox Troupe’s vintage Wall of Death, tank rides, and the Yorkshire Events Bars 1966 Bristol Lodekka Double Decker, stationed near the RNLI.

Bridlington Spa will also host the WSW Steampunk Emporium in the Royal Hall.

Running from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, the event includes entertainment, workshops, presentations, and stalls.
