Man distracts woman to steal £500 at York cashpoint

Do you recognise this man?

Police investigating a scam and theft at a York cash machine want to talk to him.

It happened last month as a woman was using the ATM at the Halifax onParliament Street.

Halifax bank location

The man told her the machine wasn’t working as it had failed to pay out his cash.

As he was distracting her he pressed the button requesting £500 without her knowledge.

When the money appeared he convinced the woman it was his from his previous transaction, and she handed it over.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The deception has only been noticed at a later date when the victim has realised £500 has gone out of her account.”
