ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour in a public cemetery has led to the council locking a gate to restrict access.
Leeds City Council said the gate to Yeadon Cemetery had to be secured following reports of incidents at the site.
Last year, police had to increase patrols around the facility on Cemetery Road following reports of intimidating behaviour.
Issues included groups of vehicles waiting for long periods at the Yeadon Cemetery viewing area and intimidating behaviour towards passers-by.
There were also reports of public urination and littering in the cemetery grounds.
What does the sign say?
A sign attached to the cemetery gate said: “Due to incidents of anti-social behaviour, and in order to preserve the peaceful and respectful atmosphere of the cemetery, this gate has been locked.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and co-operation.”
People who witnessed anti-social behaviour were encouraged to report it to West Yorkshire police by dialling 101.

What the council has said
A Leeds City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of concerns raised about the use of Yeadon Cemetery by some visitors.
“As a temporary measure, one of the pedestrian access gates has been locked and we will monitor the impact of this over the coming months.
“The cemetery remains open and accessible through its main entrance.”
