Search the Public Notice Portal A historic cricket club is set to get upgraded facilities after plans were agreed with the city council.
Hunslet and Nelson Cricket Club, founded in 1869, sought planning permission to build a new clubhouse at its ground on Gipsy Lane, Beeston.
New changing rooms and car parking are also planned for the site after Leeds City Council gave approval.
A design report said improvements had already been made, including all-weather training areas, car parking and a digital scorebox.
It said: “However, the aim has always been to create a new clubhouse facility which combines clubroom and changing facilities within a single building.”
The existing clubhouse was suffering from maintenance issues include a leaky roof, the report said.
The report by architect Alan Ramsay said: “Founded in 1869, Hunslet and Nelson is the last cricket club in south Leeds.
“Their aims since inception has not changed. To promote cricket in south Leeds for all.
“The club currently operates nine cricket teams, comprising five junior teams, three senior teams and a women’s team.”
A new kitchen and toilets would be provided as part of the development.
The report said: “The proposals will allow for the future growth of the club and allow for the removal of insufficient, outdated temporary buildings.”
Council planners gave approval for the scheme, which includes the demolition of existing buildings, in a decision issued on August 19.
