A teenager who overcame family upheaval and the loss of his grandfather has achieved GCSE success and set his sights on a military career.
Kamran, a Year 11 student at Co-op Academy Priesthorpe in Leeds, moved in with his grandparents before losing his grandfather to cancer, which caused him to disengage from school.
With support from the academy’s Bridge Alternative Provision, he returned to mainstream education, rebuilt his confidence and achieved six qualifications, including English and maths.
Louise Pratt, principal of Co-op Academy Priesthorpe, said: "Kamran's journey is an incredible example of resilience.
"Despite experiencing profound personal loss, he has shown remarkable determination to rebuild his confidence, return to his studies and pursue ambitious goals for the future.
"We couldn't be prouder of what he has achieved."
Kamran is now preparing for the Army Foundation College, where he will begin training in March 2027, and is already working towards selection for the Parachute Regiment.
