A North East independent school is celebrating an exceptional set of GCSE results after pupils achieved grades well above national and regional averages.
Red House School in Norton reported that 97.5 per cent of pupils achieved grades 9–4, with more than one in five earning a grade 9.

"Our pupils have shown tremendous commitment and perseverance throughout their studies, and their achievements today are a wonderful reflection of that hard work.
"They have also benefited from the expertise and individual support of our dedicated staff, who have helped each pupil to fulfil their potential."
The results place the school significantly above national, regional and independent-school averages, reflecting high standards and strong academic ambition across the year group.

Dr Ashcroft said: "This year’s results are a fantastic achievement across the whole cohort.
"An impressive 97.5 per cent of pupils secured grades 9–4, equivalent to A*–C under the former grading system, while more than one in five pupils achieved the very highest grade.
"The breadth of success is particularly pleasing, with strong performances across the year group and a significant number of pupils attaining exceptional results at grades 9–8 (A*).
"Our results significantly exceed the national averages for England, the North East and the independent school’s sector in England.

"This is an important measure of the strength of our pupils’ achievements and reflects the consistently high standards and ambitious expectations we have for every young person at Red House.
"The results demonstrate that our pupils are not only performing exceptionally well individually, but are achieving at a level that places the school significantly ahead of wider regional, national and independent-school benchmarks."
Several pupils achieved outstanding individual results.
Sarah earned 10 grade 9s and one grade 8; Lucy M achieved nine grade 9s and two grade 8s; Sofia V secured seven grade 9s, two grade 8s, and one grade 7; and Lucy B earned three grade 9s, three grade 8s, and three grade 7s.
Matthew received two grade 9s, three grade 8s, three grade 7s, and three grade 6s; Ore achieved one grade 9, one grade 8, four grade 7s, and three grade 6s; and David earned one grade 9, one grade 8, three grade 7s, three grade 6s, and two grade 5s.
Success extended beyond the Year 11 cohort.
Ben, a Year 10 pupil, sat his GCSE Further Mathematics exam a year early and achieved a grade 9, earning full marks on both papers.
Dr Ashcroft said: "This is an exceptional accomplishment and reflects an extraordinary level of mathematical ability, alongside the maturity and determination required to undertake an advanced qualification ahead of schedule.
"While these exceptional performances deserve particular recognition, today is ultimately about celebrating every member of the cohort.
"Each pupil has their own story of hard work, challenge and achievement, and we are incredibly proud of the progress they have made.
"Their results reflect not only academic success, but also the resilience and confidence they have developed during their time at Red House.
"I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to all of our pupils and their families.
"I would also like to thank our teachers and support staff for the outstanding contribution they make every day.
"Their commitment to high-quality teaching, together with the personal attention and care given to individual pupils, plays a hugely important part in enabling our young people to succeed.
"We look forward to coming together to celebrate these achievements with our ‘Class of 2026’ and their families at our GCSE Celebration Evening in November.
