A Grange Villa man has received a suspended prison sentence for possessing a "large knife" in a public place.
Arthur Addison, 39, of Albert Street, Grange Villa, Chester le Street, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' court on July 20.
He admitted possessing a "large, sharp-bladed article" on Albert Street, Grange Villa, on July 18.
The court heard that Addison did not have a good reason or lawful authority to carry the knife, in contravention of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.

The sentencing guidelines recommended a starting point of six months’ custody.
However, magistrates imposed two months’ imprisonment, suspended for twelve months, due to Addison’s early guilty plea, with the offence described in court as “particularly dangerous”.
Addison was also ordered to complete 40 hours of unpaid work, pay £85 costs, and a £154 surcharge. Payment is due within 14 days.
