A County Durham pub has been told "urgent improvement" is necessary by inspectors.
The Punch Bowl, in Craghead, near Stanley, was given a zero-out-of-five rating following an inspection by food safety officers on July 1.
Inspectors concluded that “urgent improvement” is necessary overall, with the pub receiving the damning assessment of “major improvement necessary” in all three inspection categories.

Hygienic food handling, which covers the preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage of food, was found to require major improvement.
Inspectors reached the same conclusion over the cleanliness and condition of the premises, a category which takes into account issues including layout, ventilation, hand-washing facilities and pest control.
The management of food safety was also judged to need major improvement.
That assessment considers whether appropriate systems and checks are in place to make sure food served is safe to eat, whether staff understand food safety requirements and whether inspectors have confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

The venue, which is also promoted as The New Punch Bowl provides food, accommodation and live sport on TV.
The inspection was carried out on behalf of Durham County Council.
The Punch Bowl has been approached for a comment.
