Even Bob Dylan can't save UK's leading art retailer as Harrogate loses its fifth art gallery in less than two years

A prestigious store on one of Harrogate’s prime retail streets in the town centre is to close despite its close association with legendary names such as Bob Dylan, Johnny Depp and Billy Connolly.

The closing down sale signs have gone up at Castle Fine Art which is located at 2-6 James Street.

After opening in June 2019 on two floors at the address after the closure of long-time occupier Gap clothes store, Castle Fine Art will itself close down on Friday, September 4.

Its demise makes it the fifth Harrogate art gallery to close down in just 22 months with the most recent example being Lucy Pittaway Art Gallery on Prospect Place which shut earlier in the year in January.

Even Castle Fine Art’s status as the UK's leading limited edition print and original art retailer, with international delivery and galleries nationwide, could not save the Harrogate branch situated on the corner of James Street next door to Pret a Manger cafe takeaway.

In the meantime, a “final reductions” sale is under way for the next two weeks at Harrogate’s Castle Fine Art.
