An optician has become the first in North Yorkshire to offer a new treatment for dry eye.
Specsavers in Ripon is now providing Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) after a £34,000 investment in new equipment.
The Market Place store is one of only 50 Specsavers branches across the UK with access to the technology, and the only Specsavers currently offering it in North Yorkshire.
Katherine Friis, optometrist director at Specsavers Ripon, said: "Many people assume dry eyes are simply something they must live with, but untreated dry eye can significantly impact quality of life, comfort and even vision.
"Dry eye disease can worsen over time if the underlying cause is not properly addressed."
The treatments use light-based technology to improve the function of eyelid glands and address the root cause of dry eye symptoms, offering longer-lasting relief.
Specsavers Ripon is also offering the new ZEST procedure, a 10 to 20-minute treatment that uses an okra-based gel and specialised swab to deep-clean eyelids and lashes.
Dry eye disease is becoming more common due to factors such as screen time, air conditioning, hormonal changes, and ageing.
Symptoms can include soreness, irritation, redness, and blurred vision.
