Why the Government needs to revise the Council Tax system - Yorkshire Post Letters
From: Philip Hutchinson, Scarr Green Close, Meltham.
The valuations and banding of Council Tax has been unaltered since it was first introduced in the last century. This has meant that those in the highest band, with the greater financial assets have proportionally contributed far less, than those in the lowest band.
The Government needs to revise the Council Tax system to make it a fair and equitable deal for all, so that Local Authorities can deliver and improve the local services we all need.
Council Tax revenue from the higher bands could be increased, not only to revive and improve local authority services, but to remove the burden of disproportionately higher charges on those with low incomes.

On the other hand, the UK Government could abolish Council Tax and institute a Land Tax, on the actual owning companies on which our housing, essential services…everything else are built upon.
The present UK Government is towards a more equal sharing to unite us, richer and poorer, together. They've got a tough job, a long one.
We live, sceptically, still in hope.
