It was a case of undercover style at York races this afternoon (Thursday).

Day two of the Ebor Festival is Ladies Day, and the fashion dazzled on Knavesmire, even if the sun didn’t.

Some heavy showers meant that the fabulous outfits had to be protected under brollies.

Meanwhile, on the track, Kalpana just held on to land the feature race, the Legends Global Yorkshire Oaks, after a mighty scare from Sparan Nua.

Colin Keane made sure Kalpana hit top gear two furlongs from home, only for Jim Bolger’s Sparan Nua to make up plenty of ground and close the gap.

The line just came in time for the 10-11 favourite to hold on by a short head, giving Keane, Andrew Balding and owners Juddmonte a second Group One in the space of 24 hours, after Item had landed the showpiece Juddmonte International yesterday.
