A SYMPHONY orchestra will perform a charity concert in support of a cause close to the hearts of one Huddersfield family.
The British Police Symphony Orchestra (BPSO) will play at Price Hall, Bradford Grammar School, on Saturday, October 10, to raise funds for Bradford Hospitals Charity’s 'Home from Home' Appeal, which helps families stay close to their babies during neonatal care.
The concert is inspired by Louise and Ben Clay from Huddersfield, whose son Alfred was born prematurely and spent 144 days in neonatal care before he died on May 29, 2025.
Louise Clay said: "The idea for the concert came from a close friend of ours who plays in the Orchestra, and we knew straight away that it was the perfect way to honour Alfred.
"We are incredibly grateful to the British Police Symphony Orchestra for embracing the idea and helping to turn it into something so meaningful."
During Alfred's time in hospital, the family stayed in one of two rooms at the neonatal unit in Bradford, allowing them to remain close to him throughout his care.
Bradford Hospitals Charity, in partnership with The Sick Children’s Trust, has raised £2.4 million of its £3.4 million target to create free, welcoming accommodation next to the neonatal unit.
The project aims to ease the emotional and financial burden of long hospital stays for families.
Mrs Clay said: "Having access to a room on the neonatal unit meant everything to us.
"It allowed us to be a family during the most difficult time of our lives, and it's incredibly moving to know that Alfred's legacy will help future families avoid having to choose between staying close to their baby and getting the rest they need.
"We know firsthand what a difference that can make."
The concert will feature music from family favourites including Aladdin and Star Wars.
Laura Riach, director of Bradford Hospitals Charity, said: "Every ticket sold will help us continue supporting families facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
"We are incredibly grateful to the BPSO for making this event possible, and to everyone who attends for helping us make a difference.
"The ‘Home from Home’ build has started and we’re aiming to welcome families in Summer 2027."
The BPSO is made up of serving and retired police officers, staff, and members of the wider police family.
Tickets start at £25, with all proceeds going to the appeal.
