A world-famous Yorkshire pub is expanding beyond its home for the first time in more than 300 years, bringing a taste of its food to the North East.

The Tan Hill Inn, known as the highest pub in the UK at 1,732 feet above sea level in Swaledale, has launched a street food outlet at Newcastle’s St James’ Stack, marking its first venture away from Yorkshire.

Andrew Hields, owner of the Tan Hill Inn, said: "Owning a pub with as much history and as well known as the Tan Hill Inn comes with a level of responsibility.

"And that includes ensuring that it is able to survive in an ever-challenging hospitality climate, particularly given the increasing overheads on site.

"Expanding the Tan Hill Inn experience beyond its Yorkshire location helps us ensure its survival and we are very grateful to STACK for the opportunity to be part of their exciting concept."

The new outlet serves classic pub favourites including the inn’s signature Yorkshire pudding wraps, traditional pies, and fish and chips.

The move is part of a plan to share the Tan Hill experience with a wider audience by transforming its traditional pub fare into a street food format.

The inn has appeared in films, TV shows, and adverts, and is a popular destination for lovers of the great outdoors and those who want a traditional British pub experience.

Gemma Dishman, director of strategy and development for Stack, said: "We are always looking to bring in traders who will add to the mix of street food we offer so that we have something for everyone.

"Having the food from a venue as well known and iconic as The Tan Hill Inn will bring something fresh and we are delighted that they have chosen Stack as the first outlet as part of their brand growth.
