A NORTH EAST performer who didn’t expect to obtain any GCSEs is dancing with joy today after passing all her exams.
When Evie Fisher started Year 7 at Polam Hall, in Darlington, five years ago, the keen dancer feared she would never achieve the qualifications she needed to follow her dreams.
But after the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team helped to put support in place for her, she today opened her results to find pass marks in every subject.
“I’m just buzzing,” she said. “I’ve passed everything!”
Evie opened her results at the Darlington school with her mum, Jackie, who admitted: “I’m just bawling my eyes out.
“There’s just been such fantastic support for Evie at Polam, especially from the school’s SEND team.
“I’m really proud of Evie. She’s worked so hard – I told her all along that she could do it!”

Nikki Holmes, SEND Coordinator at Polam, said: “Evie’s story is one we’re really proud of – she has shown just what can young people like her can achieve when the right support is put in place.
“We’re delighted that we were able to help empower her to unlock her own potential.”
Evie, who thinks she has probably danced every day of her life since the age of four, can now follow her dream to study Dance further at The Worx College performing arts school, in Newcastle.
She hopes to one day open her own training studio in the North East – after taking time to travel the world by dancing on cruise ships.
Kate Reid, Principal of Polam Hall School, said: “Evie is so talented, and she’s just worked her socks off to make this happen. It’s been incredible to see how she’s grown as a person since Year 7.
“As a Games Captain at Polam, she’s taken a leadership role in our community and become a real role model for younger children, and we’re all so thrilled for her.
“She is a wonderful example of just how hard this year group have worked. They’ve all shown such determination, and the way they have all supported each other in the run-up to exams has been truly inspiring.”
Evie’s story marked a milestone in Polam Hall’s success. Mrs Reid said: “It’s been a wonderful morning.
“We’re very proud to see that, for another year running, our attainment has improved, and Polam Hall has improved across all measurements.
“We’re especially proud to see how dramatically our results for disadvantaged pupils have developed – making sure that every child gets the opportunities they deserve.”
