An arson probe has been launched after a historic former Middlesbrough pub was set ablaze.
Firefighters were called to the former Doctor Browns on Corporation Road on Wednesday (August 19) after a fire broke out just after 5pm.
Six fire engines were sent to the scene, with pictures showing smoke pouring from the derelict building. The building was later taped off by police.
Cleveland Police has this morning confirmed that the incident is is being treated as arson and an investigation has now been launched.

Doctor Browns, which has been a staple of Corporation Road since 1867 and was known for its live music offerings, has been closed since 2023.
The building was given a ray of hope last year when hospitality firm Pneuma Group announced it would be transforming the venue into the Pitch! Sports Bar.
This has since been relocated to the former Bar Fresco site under the A66 - but just last month it was confirmed that a deal had been struck for a new operator to take over the pub.
It is not yet known how the fire has affected the plans for the venue, and Pneuma Group has been contacted for comment.

Detective Inspector Lee Bythway, from Middlesbrough CID, said: “Shortly after 5.15pm on Wednesday (August 19), police were called to the former Doctor Brown’s building on Corporation Road in Middlesbrough following reports of a fire.
“It is being treated as arson and an investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has information or footage is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or visit the website quoting reference number 166065.”
A Cleveland Fire Brigade spokesperson added: “Cleveland Fire Brigade was called on August 19 at 5.08pm to an incident at Doctor Browns, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough.

“Six fire appliances were in attendance from Middlesbrough, Stockton, Grangetown and Billingham.
“The building had 10% fire damage and 30% smoke damage to the open plan first floor. Two jets, four breathing apparatus and two thermal imaging cameras were used.
“The cause is believed to be deliberate. The stop call was received at 6.25pm.”
