A County Durham man has been fined after assaulting a woman.
Andrew Luke, 53, of Bailey Rise, Peterlee, pleaded guilty at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on August 17 to assault by beating and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
Both offences were committed on February 25.
The court heard Luke assaulted the woman during the incident and used language or behaviour which caused alarm or distress.

He was ordered to pay the victim £500 in compensation and fined £100 for the assault. He must also pay a £40 victim surcharge.
Luke's guilty plea was taken into account when he was sentenced.
No separate penalty was imposed for the public order offence.
