A Spennymoor man has received a suspended prison sentence for assaulting a man causing him "actual bodily harm".
Lewis Greathead, 32, of Hawthorn Road, Spennymoor, admitted assaulting the man on November 7, 2025, at Spennymoor, occasioning him actual bodily harm.
Greathead appeared at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on August 17, where he was sentenced to 24 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 24 months.

The court noted the offence was an “unprovoked attack of a serious nature” and showed a “flagrant disregard for people and their property".
Greathead was also ordered to pay £800 in compensation to the victim.
No victim surcharge was imposed due to “means/compensation.”
A collection order for deduction from benefits was made.
