The measures, detailed in a traffic regulation order, affect West Street in Sunderland and will come into effect from August 25.

The move follows consultation with the Chief Officer of Police.

According to the order, no waiting will be permitted at any time along the east side of West Street from a point 18.6 metres north of the extended southern property boundary of Unit 6 West Street in a northerly direction.

This covers the full length of the northern West Street Service Area and extends to the extended northern highway boundary of High Street West.

Between Monday and Saturday, from 8am to 6pm, waiting will also be prohibited along the east side of West Street from a point 2.1 metres north of the extended southern property boundary of Unit 6 West Street in a southerly direction.

This covers the southern service area of West Street in its entirety on both sides and extends to the extended southern highway boundary of High Street West.

Loading and unloading will be prohibited at all times along the road as described in (i) above.

A new loading bay will be introduced along the east side of West Street, operating every day and at all hours for goods vehicles only.

The bay will start from a point 2.1 metres north of the extended southern property boundary of Unit 6 West Street and extend 16.5 metres in a northerly direction.

The new order will also revoke previous orders related to waiting and access restrictions in the St Mary’s Way area.

The order is open to inspection at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland, during normal opening hours.
