A North East family-run farm is opening its doors this week after a two-year journey.
Gripps Farm, in Saltburn, will officially welcome visitors to its farm shop, deli, café, and petting farm tomorrow (Friday, August 21).
The opening marks the realisation of a vision by the late Simon 'Sid' McAuley, who passed away from cancer in October 2025.
Simon purchased the land in 2022 and came up with the idea of Gripps Farm.
His family has been working tirelessly to bring their father's dream to life and described the project as more than just a business venture.
The opening announcement read: "This isn’t just the opening of a new business.
"This is the fulfilment of a dream that started with one man’s crazy idea… Our Dad. Our Sidney."
They said that Sidney envisioned a place where families could come together, children could experience farm life, people could enjoy good food, support local produce, and make lasting memories.
The family fondly reminisced about Simon's legacy, stating: "Anyone who knew him knows he was an absolute legend.
"Larger than life, full of ideas, endlessly determined and someone who made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
"There isn’t a single day that goes by where we don’t wish he was here to see this.
"Dad, this one’s for you. We only wish you were here to see it.
"We hope we’ve made you proud."
The farm promises a variety of activities for its visitors.
The petting farm will be open, with a range of animals for visitors to meet, including cows, horses, goats and emus.
The farm shop and deli will be stocked with a variety of produce, treats, and everyday essentials.
The café will also be serving drinks, cakes, and a selection of light bites while the full menu and kitchen are being finalised.
Guests will also have the opportunity to camp on the farm overnight at the campsite.
Social media users were quick to send their messages of support, with one person saying: "This is amazing.
"You guys have worked your socks off to make this happen through the worst of times.
"Sid was always the one like a bull, and making things happen, and you guys have pulled this amazing legacy together for him.
"He would be proud as punch, and I'm sure he's looking down on his fantastic family making your biggest dream come true."
The family has asked for patience as they complete the outdoor area, with the emu enclosure, pond walk, and children’s play park still under construction.
Tickets for entry are not yet available for online purchase, but the farm has promised to release more information soon.
The family also hinted at exciting plans for the future, saying: "We have so much more planned, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
"This is only the beginning. We have so many exciting plans for the future, and we hope you’ll enjoy watching us grow."

Monday – Closed
Tuesday – 8am to 6pm
Wednesday – 8am to 6pm
Thursday – 8am to 6pm
Friday – 8am to 6pm
Saturday – 8am to 6pm
Sunday – 8am to 6pm
The Petting Barn and the Adventure park will be open between 10am and 5pm.
