Students collecting their GCSE results across the North East may want to pack an umbrella, with rain forecast through much of the morning.
The Met Office forecast for Darlington and County Durham suggests a damp and cooler start to one of the biggest days in the school calendar.
Thousands of teenagers will be heading to schools and colleges across the county to collect their grades after months of waiting.
However, many are likely to be greeted by cloudy skies and periods of rain as they make their way to pick up their results.
According to the Met Office, the region will see chances of rain between 60 per cent and 80 per cent through much of Thursday morning.
Temperatures are expected to gradually climb from around 12C early in the day to a high of about 16C during the afternoon.
While the weather may not be ideal for photographs outside school gates, here are a few ways students can avoid a soggy start to the day.
Anyone travelling to collect results should allow a little extra time for their journey, particularly if walking or relying on public transport.
A waterproof jacket or umbrella could be useful, while students collecting paper results may want to bring a folder or plastic wallet to keep documents dry.
The good news is that the wet weather is not expected to last forever.
Forecasts suggest rain chances should gradually ease as the day progresses, with brighter and drier conditions expected to return towards the weekend.
Current forecasts indicate Saturday and Sunday will be largely dry across Durham and much of the North East, providing a more pleasant backdrop for any celebrations planned after results day.
So while GCSE results day may begin with umbrellas at the ready, students can at least take comfort in knowing better weather could be just around the corner.
