An Emmerdale legend returned to the Dales after disappearing from the show for six months.

The long-standing cast member returned to TV screens alongside his family, with fans excited to see him back.

Rodney Blackstock, who is played by Patrick Mower, was last seen in Emmerdale in February this year.

He returned to the show in the episode that aired on Tuesday, August 18, after joining the show in 2000.

Rodney was seen talking to his step-grandson, Elliot, who is played by Luca Hoyle, after he received his A-Level results.

Rodney shared some advice on what he should do with his future.

He said: "I think a proper education’s a complete waste of time.

"I mean, look at me.

"I hardly went to school.

"I started working when I was eight, on the fairgrounds."

His daughter Nicola, played by Nicola Wheeler, said Elliot should go to university.

Rodney was first introduced to the ITV soap as the father of Bernice Blackstock, who was portrayed by Samantha Giles.

Nicola was brought onto the show a year later and went on to marry Jimmy King, played by Nick Miles, in 2010.

Rodney has been a regular on the show over the years, with fans excited to see him back on their screens.

People took to social media to share their thoughts on his return.

One person on X wrote: "Finally Rodney Blackstock is back.

"And finally the Billy/Joe/Dawn storyline is getting interesting.

"Solid episode today #Emmerdale."

Another person wrote: "Forgot how much I miss naughty Rodney #Emmerdale."

Another person wrote: "Welcome back Rodney!

"Give him a new storyline. #Emmerdale."

However, it has been revealed that Rodney’s son-in-law, Jimmy, will be killed in a dramatic storyline that will air later in the year.

Several other characters in Emmerdale have left the show this year including Noah Dingle, John Sugden, Ray Walters, and Celia Daniels.

The ITV soap will also be axing several other big names including Dawn Fletcher, played by Olivia Bromley, who has been on the show for eight years.
