Holby City and Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney is set to star in the musical Annie at the Grand Opera House in York.

Claire Sweeney is set to star in the musical Annie at the Grand Opera House in York.

Ms Sweeney will play Miss Hannigan, with performances scheduled for January 12 to 16, 2027.

She is well known for her television work, including roles in Brookside, Holby City, and Coronation Street.

The cast will also include Alex Bourne as Oliver Warbucks, Tanisha-Mae Brown as Grace Farrell, Christian Cooper as Rooster, and Amber Kennedy as Lily St. Regis.

The role of Annie will be shared by Victoria Alsina, Sophia Saravanan, and June Young.

Ms Sweeney has also had numerous West End roles, including parts in Chicago and Guys and Dolls.

The production of Annie is set in 1930s New York during the Great Depression.

It tells the story of Annie, a young orphan who spends Christmas with the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, while Miss Hannigan tries to thwart her attempts to find her true family.

The musical features songs such as It's the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don't Need Anything But You, and Tomorrow.

The show is produced by Michael Harrison and David Ian, and directed by Nikolai Foster, the artistic director of the Leicester-based Curve Theatre.

Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
