A hospitality group is teaming up with a homeless charity to deliver regular meals and support for people in need.
The Hospitality Association York (HAY) has partnered with HOPING York Street Kitchen in a new scheme that will run through to 2026.
Member hotels will take turns providing food, toiletries, and service to those experiencing homelessness or financial hardship.
Kai Ikulayo, Chair of HAY, said: "It feels great to be supporting the homeless as hoteliers and to share HOPING’s ethos of warm, reliable hospitality.
"The two organisations dovetail.
"Good hospitality is in the detail.
"We were informed of the need for toiletries and that homeless people often depend on their dogs for affection and trust, so Lionel contributed boxes of toiletries and dog treats along with his chef’s desserts.
"We hear HOPING’s needs – it’s been a revelation – and we are enjoying working together."
The first meal was recently provided by Middlethorpe Hall and Spa and served large apple crumbles.
Ingrid Hoffbauer, trustee at HOPING, said: "We combine homely favourite dishes with fine dining to reflect the respect due to our diners, whose self-esteem is challenged by life on the streets, in hostels or surfing sofas.
"We can’t thank HAY enough for their generosity."
