A CHARITY set up in memory of a young girl has raised more than half a million pounds to support seriously ill children and their families.
The Millie Wright Children’s Charity was founded in May 2022 by Ceri and Nigel Wright from Poppleton, in memory of their daughter Millie, who died on August 21, 2021.
Since its launch, the charity has raised over £500,000 and funded 5,600 hours of family support worker services.

It has also delivered Saturday Suppers to more than 10,000 families through its ‘feed the parents’ scheme and provided £35,000 per year for ambient food in parent kitchens, available seven days a week.
Ceri Wright, co-founder of The Millie Wright Children’s Charity, said: "Five years after losing Millie, there isn't a day that goes by when we don't think about her.
"The charity was born from our experience and our determination to make life a little easier for other families facing the unthinkable.

"What we've achieved over the last five years is only possible because of the incredible support we've received from fundraisers, volunteers and hospital staff.
"Every family we help is part of Millie's legacy, and we are immensely proud of the difference the charity has made."
The charity has supported a hospital play proof-of-concept and successfully campaigned for seven-day play access for every child on the ward, regardless of diagnosis.

It has worked closely with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to advocate for improvements based on the founders’ lived experience - this has included pushing for equal treatment of haematology patients in oncology settings.
Nigel Wright, co-founder of the charity, said: "Millie inspired everyone who met her with her courage, kindness and smile. Her spirit lives on through the charity and the support it provides.

Its work is focused on easing financial pressure, supporting mental health, and creating special moments for families.

The charity remains committed to expanding its reach and ensuring that families of children with life-threatening conditions receive the practical and emotional help they need, when they need it most.
