York Museum Gardens will host its inaugural Dog Show in September with Yorkshire shepherdess Amanda Owen as the judge.

York Museum Gardens will celebrate the love of dogs in the biggest dog show in the city on September 20, 2026 with a celebrity judge.

Teaming up with York Dog Park, the event brings together the dog-loving community in a popular outdoor venue.

You can enter the dog show on the day, with prizes for Handsomest Dog to Fanciest Female to Cutest Puppy or Best Trick, there will be something for everyone to get involved.

The Dog Show will be judged on the day by author and TV personality, Amanda Owen, the Yorkshire shepherdess.

She said: “I’m so excited to be judging the York Dog Show in York Museum Gardens.

“I always love to come and meet all the dogs and their owners and look forward to seeing them all on the day!”

The event will feature a pop-up shopping village and the Museum Gardens will be filled with a variety of local vendors selling everything from treats to toys and accessories.

Those who are looking for some advice or expert knowledge on their pets will have the opportunity to visit information stalls as well as listen to talks from veterinary experts.

Dog training workshops and agility demonstrations, including bale racing, will take place throughout the day along with professional dog photographers, making the most of the beautiful backdrop of the Museum Gardens.

The Have-a-Go Dog Park offers a fun space for all, and this unique York event is not just for pups; a selection of delicious food and drink will also be available for the human visitors.

Senior events manager at York Museums Trust, Jocelyn Palmer, said: “Dog owners of Yorkshire, this one is for you!

“We are so excited to be hosting our first ever dog show and bring together pet lovers, experts, businesses, trainers and photographers to celebrate our canine companions.

“With all the food, stalls and entertainment, it will be a full day affair for the whole family to enjoy and spend a day in the beautiful surroundings of the Museum Gardens with other likeminded people.

“We can’t wait to welcome Amanda to this very first dog show in York Museum Gardens.

“We are very lucky to have her as a judge this year with her wealth of knowledge and of course are looking forward to having a wonderful day with her and all the dogs!”

The event will run from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026. This event is ticketed and tickets can be purchased on the York Museums Trust website. A child ticket is £2 and an adult costs £5.
