When the atmosphere is unpredictable, it can cause thunderstorms; it is when warm air exists underneath much colder air.
In the UK, thunderstorms can take place at any time of the year but they are the most severe during summer months, especially following a period of extremely hot days, humidity and sunny weather.
At times, thunderstorms can result in thunder and lightning, which are associated with convective clouds and are often accompanied by heavy rain or hail.
Thunderstorms are formed by intense heating of the Earth’s surface and due to the unusually hot summer we have been experiencing this year, they are predicted to reach parts of the UK.

How to find out percentage for your town or city by postcode
On the Net Weather website, there is a ‘Forecasts’ tab at the top, then a drop-down menu appears with a ‘Will it?’ option.
Click on that option and then select the ‘Will it thunder’ option. You can then type in your postcode or a town/city to find out the percentage chance your area will get thunderstorms.
