Plans submitted to turn part of golf course into 'small' holiday park

Plans have been submitted to turn part of a golf course into a “small” holiday park.

There’s been no golf played at Cherry Burton in East Yorkshire since 2018, and owners, Aureus Leisure, who bought the site in 2019, want to turn part of it into a holiday park with 35 lodges.

The plans submitted to East Riding Council propose extending the clubhouse and turning the driving range into a gym and health spa and build padel courts, which would be open to the general public.

Planning documents state that if planning permission is approved, they’ll reinstate a nine-hole golf course on the remainder of the land they own.

There would be a new access from Leconfield Road.

The applicants says there is precedent to allow the change of use following a successful appeal by developers in 2017 against refusal of planning permission by East Riding Council for a holiday park on the former Allerthorpe Park Golf Course, near York.

East Riding councillor Jeremy Wilcock has flagged concerns about potential traffic problems.

In an email to planners he said: “The B1248 and Myles Lane, Lockington are both congested for much of the time and the junction of the B1248 and Myles Lane is dangerous enough as it is a crossroads which badly needs replacing by a roundabout.”

There are nearly 900 bedspaces already in the area which are provided by holiday parks.

Aureus owns Hawthorn Holiday Park in Bempton.
