Eight indoor padel courts would be built by the Everlast Gym in the Clifton Moor Leisure Park under plans lodged with York Council.
Applicants Roko Wiggington [sic] York (Leaseco) Ltd stated the development would support participation in a rapidly-growing and accessible sport and promote healthy and active lifestyles.
They added the existing provision of padel facilities in York and the immediate surrounding area was insufficient to meet rising demand for the sport.

The plans would see eight Slazenger Padel Clubs courts built in the existing overflow car park by the gym, in Stirling Road.
The court building would cover an area of around 2,300sqm and feature a reception and waiting area for players along with the courts themselves.
Padel is played on an enclosed court about a third of the size those used for tennis with balls played off glass walls similar to squash.
The Lawn Tennis Association (LGA), the sport’s governing body, stated it is easy to learn and sociable, contributing to its growing popularity.
Plans stated the development would broaden the existing offer at Clifton Moor Leisure Park.

They added LTA data showed the number of people playing padel yearly across the UK had risen from around 15,000 in 2019 to about 860,000 in 2025.
The application stated: “Padel offers significant general health and wellbeing benefits encouraging those that perhaps do not play much sport to get involved in an active sport pastime.
“Padel is a fast growing sport across Europe and in the UK.
“Existing padel provision within York and its immediate surroundings is still
proving insufficient to meet evident demand, particularly in relation to purpose
built indoor facilities capable of providing reliable year-round play.
“The proposed development would provide eight indoor courts within a
dedicated building, representing a more comprehensive form of provision.
“The number of courts would allow several games to operate concurrently,
increasing opportunities for participants to secure court time.”
