A TRAVELLER encampment at a York school playing fields has come to an end.
City of York Council said that the community occupying All Saints RC School playing fields in Sim Balk Lane has now left the area voluntarily.
It comes after a number of caravans owned by the Travellers were spotted at the site on Monday (August 17).
A court hearing that had been scheduled to seek an Order requiring the Travellers to leave the site will no longer go ahead, council director of communities, Pauline Stuchfield, said.
She said: “We can confirm that those occupying the site have now left the land voluntarily.
As a result, the court hearing that had been scheduled to seek an Order requiring the occupants to leave the site is no longer necessary.
“No further enforcement action is required at this time.
“The council will continue to monitor the site and would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while the matter was being resolved.”
All Saints RC School has games pitches in Sim Balk Lane next to York College.
The city's oldest state secondary school, All Saints in South Bank is on a split site with Years 7, 8 and 9 taught in buildings behind the Bar Convent in Nunnery Lane and Years 10 to 13 at Mill Mount.
It is set to open its Mill Mount campus for GCSE results tomorrow (Thursday, August 20).
