Woman charged with 'glassing' another woman in daytime city centre street incident

A WOMAN has appeared before York Magistrates' Court following an alleged daytime “glassing” in a street in the city centre.

Sarah Jane Ogden, 50, is charged with wounding another woman with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm and affray.

Ogden, of James Street, central York, was not asked to enter a plea to the charges. Because the charges of wounding with intent can only be tried by a judge and jury, the case was sent to York Crown Court.

She will appear before a judge for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 14 when she will be expected to enter her plea.

Until then, she was released on bail on conditions that she live at her current address, doesn’t drink alcohol in public, isn’t drunk in public, doesn’t go within 100 metres of Carecent on St Saviourgate, and doesn’t contact the alleged victim or the other two people who were arrested on Monday in connection with the incident and later released pending further police investigation.
