A much-loved burger bar and restaurant is set to open in the city centre on Friday.

Sloppy’s Bar and Kitchen recently closed in suburban Woodthorpe in preparation for its relocation to Castlegate.

As previously reported, owners Molly McGrath and Leon Sledmore, had sought a move to the city centre to benefit from its higher footfall.

Since 2022, the couple had been based in the Acomb Wood Shopping Centre, next to its top-rated Buongiorno Bistro.

Since the closure of their Woodthorpe restaurant, owners Molly McGrath and Leon Sledmore have been busily converting the former Clucking Oinks in Castlegate.

Molly said: “We have completely redecorated everything to create a nice, cosy atmosphere, with retro vibes and great music.”

Sloppy’s for its famous burgers and wings, but the new city restaurant will feature more small plates and cocktails.

Molly added: “Same great menu, great food and drinks.”

The opening of the new restaurant will be at 3pm.

And it’s sure to be a hit, with Tripadvisor awarding Sloppy’s 4.9 stars out of five, based on 214 reviews, ranking it 12th out of 879 restaurants in York. Google awards 4.8 stars out of five, based on 135 reviews.

As for Clucking Oinks, it has a branch at Spark York.

It also sells from its new food truck at the Fox in Holgate Road from Wednesday to Sunday over the summer.
