An annual sleepout to raise money for homeless youngsters will mark its 30th year at York Racecourse.

The SASH (Safe and Sound Homes) Sleepout Challenge is set to take place at the racecourse on Friday, October 16, from 7pm to 7am at the Churchill Tyres Lawn and Canopy Area.

The event, which has grown in popularity, invites local businesses, organisations, and community groups to join in raising funds and awareness for young people in York and the surrounding areas.

Participants can enjoy musical entertainment, refreshments, hot drinks, and access to toilets throughout the night for a ticket price of £20 per person.

The event welcomes people aged 18 and over.

Organisers have clarified that the event does not aim to replicate the experience of homelessness.

Instead, it seeks to unite people in solidarity with young people in need of safe accommodation, while raising awareness and funds for positive change.

SASH supports young people aged 16–25 by providing shelter through its emergency Nightstop service and longer-term Supported Lodgings scheme.

The charity also offers crucial support in areas such as emotional wellbeing, education, employment, training, and helping young people develop the skills they need to live independently.

To continue providing these services, SASH needs to raise £350,000 each year.

Every pound raised through the Sleepout contributes to ensuring that young people facing homelessness have a safe place to stay and the support they need to progress.
