Heatwave? That’s so last week.
The Met Office has just issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms which covers York and North Yorkshire.
The warning is in effect from 7pm tonight (Wednesday) till 10am tomorrow (Thursday).
The Met Office says heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to lead to some travel disruption and flash flooding.
It says:
- There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus
- Some flooding of a few homes and businesses likely, leading to some damage to buildings or structures
- Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes
- Delays to train services are possible
- Some short-term loss of power and other services is likely.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “I suspect many people across England and Wales will at least enjoy the feel of some rain falling out of the sky during the next few days, but it’s not going to solve the drought situation overnight because we’re not expecting huge amounts and it will be highly variable because a lot of it will come in the form of showers.”
