More than one customer described it as ‘the best chippy in York’.
But soon it’s going to close as the owner moves on to a new chapter.
Bish ’n’ Chips in Bishopthorpe will shut when the lease ends in three weeks time.
It’s been run by Tom Gibbons for more than six years but he’s now moving on.
In a social post, he wrote: “The lease on the shop is coming to an end in just 3 weeks time, and I have decided to not renew.
“It’s been a great chapter for me, but with a young family, it’s time for me to explore pastures new.
“Your custom / support over the past six-plus years has been amazing and so appreciated. I really hope to see as many familiar faces as possible in our final few weeks of trading!”
The last trading day of Bish ’n’ Chips, on Sim Balk Lane, will be Saturday, 5 September.
There has been a chippie here for many years, so it may yet be taken over by a new person and fry another day.
Customers thanked Tom for his “friendly, personal service” and for cooking their orders “to perfection”.
One commented: “Aw man. Best chippy in York by a country mile. Gutted! Best of luck in the future, I’ll miss this place.”
Another wrote: “It’s hard work juggling a business and a young family, so best wishes for whatever comes next… and thanks for the amazing fish and chips.”
And a third said: “Absolutely outstanding fish and chips that we were privileged to enjoy.”
