BRADFORDIANS have been warned that new product safety regulations have prompted changes across salons and beauty brands.
People who enjoy regular gel manicures are being reassured that there is "no reason to panic" following the introduction of updated cosmetics regulations that restrict certain ingredients commonly used in gel nail products.
The changes, which came into effect on August 15, now ban the use of TPO (a photoinitiator found in some gel systems) in new products.
Danielle Louise, a beauty expert at Fresha, said: "If you regularly get gel nails, there's no reason to cancel your appointments or worry that something has suddenly become unsafe.
"The vast majority of professional salons use trusted brands that keep up to date with cosmetic regulations, and many manufacturers have already introduced reformulated products well ahead of the deadline."
Ms Louise added: "One of the best things you can do is choose a reputable salon that uses recognised professional products and follows good hygiene practices."
She said clients are unlikely to notice any difference in the look or longevity of their gel nails, but reminded people with allergies or sensitive skin to inform their technician before treatment.
