A BRADFORD-BORN actor has joined a major new campaign.
Shakeel Kimotho, who recently starred in Channel 4’s Tip Toe, appears alongside 29 other LGBTQ+ celebrities and allies in The Proud Trust’s #DeserveBetter campaign.
The campaign calls for greater understanding, safer spaces, and better support for LGBTQ+ young people.
Mr Kimotho said: "Being accepted for who you are shouldn't be something anyone has to fight for.
"The Proud Trust is helping LGBTQ+ young people feel seen, heard and supported, and that's why I'm proud to support #DeserveBetter.
"Every young person deserves that chance."
The campaign highlights the challenges still facing LGBTQ+ youth.
43 per cent of LGBTQ+ pupils experience bullying because of who they are, 58 per cent have seriously considered suicide, and nearly a quarter may never complete secondary school.
Rachel Williams, CEO of The Proud Trust, said: "Every LGBTQ+ young person deserves to feel safe, accepted and proud of who they are.
"At a time when LGBTQ+ lives are being debated more than ever, it's vital that young people know they are valued, supported and never alone."
The Proud Trust supports thousands of LGBTQ+ young people each year through youth groups, mentoring, one-to-one support, and family services.
It also delivers education programmes and professional training.
