A Hartlepool man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a car in Horden, County Durham.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a car.

The Cleveland Police officer was struck while carrying out enquiries in Horden on Monday (August 17).

The officer suffered injuries to his arm and leg and was taken to University Hospital North Durham.

Following a short pursuit ending in the Trimdon Grange area, a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody.

Jonathan Kenneth Collingwood, of Hartlepool, has since been charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving.

He was remanded into custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, August 19).
